The Vigil Project

The Vigil Project (developed in 1992) is a way for congregations to honor and remember victims and their children who lost their lives due to domestic violence as well as to remember all those whose lives are touched by domestic violence. Typically, congregations host a Vigil for their community, involving schools, local government, businesses, law enforcement, the health care community and other local institutions.  For many congregations, the Vigil Project is a first step toward awareness and recognition of family violence as an issue in their community.  The Vigil raises awareness about domestic abuse, stresses the disastrous impact on families and youth, and calls community members to respond collaboratively to the problem.
